Most schools and colleagues have multi-use games areas commonly known as MUGA pitches. Multi-use games areas are designed to save space; they are recreational regions large enough to accommodate tennis, netball, football line markings, which generally overlap in different colours.
Nearly all multi-use games areas are designed to be porous, as the pitch itself needs to be level, making it impossible for stormwater runoff. The most commonly used approved materials for such areas are either Ulti Sport by Tarmac Lafarge of Super sport by Aggregate Industries.
Both materials are very open in texture allowing water to drain through efficiently. It is essential to mention the base layer should also be porous asphalt as well as the stone sub-base build up which is generally specified as an MOT type 3 granular stone sub-base.
MOT stands for the Ministry of Transport, and these aggregates are high-grade granites. Type 3 has little to no fines so water can drain through it very quickly, even after thorough compaction.
At Blue Rock Group, we can construct the foundations to your MUGA and carry out the surfacing helping the client save money by keeping everything in-house. We will also install the line makings we have both thermo-plastic and Acrylic options available. All works carried out by Blue Rock Group come with a 5 year-Guarantee as standard.
